Fireworks in Steamboat Springs!
Thanks to some great friends who just moved outside Steamboat Springs, we got to enjoy some time at Steamboat Lake complete with a bonfire and fireworks display! We had a great weekend in Steamboat, and this was definitely a highlight, although the camera settings were completely the opposite of those snowy photos taken during the day!

I was shooting with my Nikon D700 at 5000 ISO and about 1/6th of a second - some of the time I had to lean against the house to stabilize the camera. But as most night shots like this, I did get a lot of bad blurry photos! It was also hard to judge the contrast between the bonfire and the surroundings! Oh yeah, trying to follow the path of the fireworks in the dark was a challenge too!

Steamboat Springs Weekend Getaway
Since the kiddos were on break this week, we went to Steamboat Springs for a long weekend for some cross country skiing, sledding, hanging out with friends, and just some plain hanging around!

We opted for a rustic cabin, and found this GREAT place called Perry-Mansfield, just a mile outside of Steamboat Springs, but still really secluded and rustic! No phones, no TV.....just the great outdoors! It's a performing arts camp that must be completely different in summer when camp is in session, but during the winter months they rent out the cabins. I love this place!

And one of the highlights of this rustic resort (besides the quiet and the amazing views) was a wonderful tubing hill that we found on premise! Complete with a friendly dog to chase the kiddos and the tubes!

A few good snowball fights, a few good tubing escapades, and the whole family was all smiles! Then we even got to take in a bonfire (complete with fireworks)on Saturday night!
