.......and a MINDFUL New Year!
With all the talk of the New Year, making change, improving things going forward, I want to share my number one goal in the new year:

To be more MINDFUL in 2008!

I have been doing yoga regularly this past year and really enjoy the effect both physically & mentally! I had always dabbled with yoga, but went for more cardiovascular workouts instead. But this year I really got into yoga.....and as some yogis describe it - yoga found ME! I don't think I had a choice, but I was meant to do practice yoga!

Attending the Yoga Journal Beginners Workshop in Estes Park, I had the great opportunity to attend a workshop by Judith Hanson Lasater. She has been teaching yoga for 40 years and has written a number of books.......the one I'm reading now is Living Your Yoga.

I was dreading this session, because it was the only one listed as a "lecture" not actually doing yoga, and I didn't want to sit through a 2 hour lecture. Well, I was completely blown away.....learned more than I had in years of yoga practice, fell in love with Judith's style, and her session was my favorite and the one that I carry the most meaning forward into my daily life.

One of the things that was most impactful was Judith's suggestion that the one thing that we should do when we return home after the conference is to be PRESENT in the moment. When our spouse or children talk to us, to turn to them & give them our 100% attention! I have been working on this for the four months since the conference, but have not always done well at it. We are all so trained to multi task! And having small kids makes multitasking almost essential!

But today I commit myself again to this challenge. To be present in my daily activities and to not be looking too far forward or backwards!

And I've been watching the work of fellow photographer, Shawn Reeder, who does a lot of wedding photography in Yosemite & other beautiful California locations & wanted to share these photos which I LOVE from his work! You can also watch a whole SLIDESHOW on his website! Namaste!

What a great way to start the new year Kay. Being mindful and present seems so easy but it takes work and dedication. I appreciate the inspiration! Hope you're well.

Small kids and multi-tasking, is there any other way! Thanks for that reminder and cool you went to a workshop other than photogaphy! Sometimes I remind myself, STOP, do one thing, and when my son asks for attention, I try to stop what I'm doing, or not pick up another thing and give it to him completely for a little bit. Good reminder! Nice to see Shawn's photos shocased too, they look great!

Yunna,

The shot with the field wasn't done with HDR, but I did lighten the person up a bit in photoshop.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments on my photos!

For me being mindful starts with a good dose of daily meditation ... so why don't I set aside the 20 minutes to sit?
Maybe I'll go sit right now.
